Update

It's been a struggle, lately. Work is busy. I'm taking three classes this quarter. (I'm pursuing my master's.) Fortunately, the church wants the men to get to know me better before I take over men's ministries...if I get to take over men's ministries. That gives me some time. The pastor will be out tomorrow, though. I get to fill in for him. No time to put together something new, and choosing an existing sermon proved harder than I thought. Finally chose one though. I'll post the notes here when…See More

Focusing on the KNOWN

Thank God, He gave us the Bible! With all the mayhem in life, it's easy to get distracted and lose track. Especially when you're involved with social sites. Although, I must give my congratulations to the many Christians who work ceaselessly to claim the social site scene in His name. Thank God for their efforts also.Fear is the biggest distraction I see going on right now. Enough to make some Christians huddle in the corner of their room, hugging their Bible's tightly to them and wishing the…See More

As Bartles and James used to say, "Thank you for your support."

Christians of Whom the World is not Worthy

Note's From Sunday's Sermon (very much inspired by our current study here)Again, guest-preaching at Calvary Chapel Mobile2 Timothy 3:12-4:512—Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. Is that one of the promises of God you cling to each day?John 15:19If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.Maybe that explains why Paul said:1Chorinthians…See More

Wade's Update

Yesterday's post disappeared.Anyway, I gave the devotion at the Men's Prayer Breakfast at Calvary Gulf Coast this morning. It went well. After a busy week, and with a sermon due tomorrow and school assignments due this weekend, I went the easy way out and used a shortened version of last week's sermon. It turned into more of a discussion, which I really enjoyed. The guys put together a lot of food for these breakfasts. I'm impressed. We had about ten guys. They say we usually have about…See More

Abide in Christ: Be Fruitful John 15:1-8

Notes from today's sermon.(I was the guest preacher at Calvary Chapel Mobile, this morning.)John 15:1-8"I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in…See More

Better Fiction has the draw of the main site, which has consistently brought traffic and new members--whether or not they participate or stick around is another story. Tie-ins from your site could help this one in similar fashion. I appreciate it.

May need a few other members for that. :-) I'm going to add another favorite links column to helpmychurchgrow.com and will add a link to here. That may help.

Fearing the Great Commission: Tractaphobia

I'm about to watch the first "Way of the Master" video, but before I do I have another blog in mind. I tried to find it again so I could post the link, but so far, no luck. We've talked here about the fear that confronts us when we step out to witness--or even think about witnessing. This particular post was a good example of an acute phobia, a demonic attack, or both.Note: "Demonic attack." It feels weird even writing that in this culture. First, there are doctrines that overemphasize that…See More

Evangelism: Out of the Comfort Zone

“No doubt you have your fears and concerns when it comes to sharing your faith, but through the material presented here you will discover a newfound courage.” That’s a quote from the second paragraph of the study guide that comes with “The Way of the Master” Basic Training Course. Anyone who read my last post knows I do, indeed, have my fears and concerns. So do we all, I suppose.Later on, it says: “Although this course can be used for individual study, it is ideally suited for use in small and…See More

Evangelism in a Box

I have a box in my lap. The shipping label reads "Living Waters Publications", and I feel a bit nervous. The idea of approaching strangers, one-on-one, to share the love of Christ terrifies me. Still, I reach over and take the scissors out of the desk drawer and slice open the tape. The use of present tense here is no narrative device. This is the moment.I remove the packing slip and can now see something blue beneath the packing popcorn. I reach in, expecting what I see to be the first of…See More
